comparison of amd am4 chipsets a320 b350 b450 x370 x470 x399 x570

Socket AM4 is a microprocessor socket used by AMD's CPUs, which is currently a base for 7 chipsets models. This article aims to introduce and compare the AM4 chipsets of AMD: A320 vs B350 vs B450 vs X370 vs X470 vs X399 vs X570.

The AM4 chipsets are divided into three different parts with the A, B, and X series chipsets, while the lowest is the A series chipsets. There are three generations of AM4 chipsets on the market at present. Chipsets starting with the number "3" are representatives of the first generation and chipsets starting with the number "4" represent the second generation, etc. In order to compare these chipsets more clearly, the below chart summarizes the differences between them in various aspects.

A320

a320 GIGABYTE GA-A320M-S2H Motherboard

AMD A320 chipset is an entry-level Ryzen chipset for general use, which can easily meet the needs of their computer basic work. It features a limited number of USB ports, SATA ports and PCI-E lanes. Unlike other chipsets, it is the only chipset that doesn't support overclocking. It is worth mentioning that A320 chipset won't be updated for Ryzen 3000 support.

B350

b350 MSI Gaming AMD Ryzen B350 Motherboard

AMD B350 chipset is the mid-range Ryzen chipset and features a modest number of USB ports, SATA ports and PCI-E lanes. Unlike the X470 chipset, B350 chipset doesn't support SLI or CrossFire. It is a pretty good choice for those who values overclocking control and flexibility, but not the maximum PCIe bandwidth.

B450

b450 Asus ROG Strix B450-F Gaming Motherboard

Similar to AMD B350 chipset, AMD B450 chipset is also the mid-range Ryzen chipset. AMD B450 chipset has little difference in expansibility and features from AMD B350 chipset. But it has outstanding features of high performance and flexibility with AMD StoreMI storage acceleration technology. In terms of CPU support, B450 chipset supports a broader range than B350 chipset.

X370

x370 ASRock X370 Killer SLI Motherboard

AMD X370 chipset is also designed for the AMD Ryzen range of CPUs. It is the flagship Ryzen chipset which has enthusiast class features and control. It has a large number of USB ports, SATA ports and PCI-E lanes to meet users' need. In addition, it supports StoreMI, SLI and CrossFire. Generally, it can meet our ultra-high performance needs. It is a powerful platform for those who values overclocking and system optimization.

X470

x470 MSI Performance Gaming AMD X470 Motherboard

In terms of AMD X470 chipset, it is an upgraded version of X370 chipset. It has almost the same features as X370 chipset while X470 enhances the stability of processor overclocking and memory compatibility. Relative to X370, it supports StoreMI storage acceleration technology without extra cost.

X399

x399 GIGABYTE X399 AORUS PRO Motherboard

AMD X399 chipset is designed for the AMD Ryzen Threadripper range of CPUs. It contains almost all the advantages mentioned above. Meanwhile, it features quad channel DDR4, available ECC support and 8 DIMM slots for up to 3600 MHZ. It is a perfect platform for those who values system optimization and high-end performance.

X570

x570 MSI MPG X570 GAMING EDGE WIFI Motherboard

AMD X570 chipset is the world's first chipset with PCI-E 4.0 support. It features extraordinary performance with the most bandwidth for storage and graphics. It supports more USB 3.1 Gen2 ports. It has strong ability of the CPU cooling (11W TDP). In a word, it is the most advanced Socket AM4 platform with the most outstanding features of performance and expansibility at present.
