Solution 1: Remove advertisements from file explorer

Microsoft displays ads with banners at the top of the File Explorer window. These banners can be disabled in the Options window of File Explorer.

Step 1: Type File Explorer in the start bar to open File Explorer window.

Step 2: Click the View tab at the top of the File Explorer window and click the Options button.

Step 3: Click the View tab at the top of the Folder Options window that appears, scroll down in the list of Advanced settings, and uncheck the Show sync provider notifications option, then click OK.

Solution 2: Disable advertisements from bloatware

If you see pop-ups above the Windows taskbar, it's likely that bloatware is urging you to register something you don't need, or reminding you of a feature you don't need. You can control them under Settings > System > Notifications.

Step 1: Take a look at the notification list to see if the messages come from any of these projects.

Step 2: Head to Settings > Apps > Apps & features and click the software that you are sure your PC doesn't need actually, then click Uninstall.

In your start menu, the ads will be disguised as "Suggested Apps" (the apps suggested for you are determined by your behavior on the OS; for example, PC games from the Windows Store), and it will take up your free space.

Solution 4: Remove ads from lock screen

It is common for Windows 10 and 11 ads to appear on the desktop. If you want ads to stop appearing on your lock screen, set a custom image or slideshow instead of using Windows Spotlight.

Step 1: Press Windows+I to open Settings and select Personalization.

Step 2: Shift to lock screen in the left panel, and locate the Background section in the right pane.

Step 3: Choose Picture or Slideshow from the drop-down menu to replace Windows spotlight.
