How to Import & Export Bookmarks on Chrome, Firefox, IE

Bookmark, aka favorites, is a method of saving the frequently visited websites on the top of browser, which allows you to access the websites easily. For some reason, you want to switch to a new browser. In this case, you have to face the problem of transferring bookmark. For example, maybe you need to export bookmarks from Firefox or import bookmarks from Chrome to Firefox. Of course, you can cut and paste the website to new browser one by one. But it will be a massive hassle when the number of bookmarks is numerous. Take it easy! Actually, some popular browsers like Chrome, Firefox and Internet Explorer can transfer bookmarks from each other. In this post, we will walk you through how to import and export bookmarks on browsers including Chrome, Firefox and Internet Explorer in a straight-forward way.

Note: At the time of writing this post, we operated and took the screenshots in the latest version of browser. Some layouts may change slightly as the version updates. This article will be updated accordingly.

Part 1: Chrome

Import bookmarks from Firefox or Internet Explorer to Chrome

1. Step 1: Open Chrome browser. Click the three vertical dots in the top-right corner of browser.

2. Step 2: Move mouse over Bookmarks and click Import bookmarks and settings.

   

3. Step 3: Choose the browser from the drop-down menu and then click Import.

   

4. Step 4: A confirmation window will pop up and you just need to click Done to finish.

Tips: You can also import browsing history and saved password from Firefox or Internet Explorer in this way.

Export Chrome bookmarks

1. Step 1: Open Chrome browser and press Ctrl + Shift + O shortcut simultaneously.

2. Step 2: Click the three vertical dots menu at the top-right corner and select Export bookmarks.

3. Step 3: Choose a location to save the HTML file and click Save.

Tips: You can also import bookmarks in this way but it just can import an HTML file.

Part 2: Firefox

Import bookmarks from Chrome or Internet Explorer to Firefox

1. Step 1: Open the Firefox browser and press Ctrl + Shift + B shortcut simultaneously to open Library window.

2. Step 2: On Library window, Click Import and Backup and select Import Data from Another Browser in the context menu.

3. Step 3: Choose the browser (Chrome or Internet Explorer) from which you want to import bookmarks and then click Next.

4. Step 4: Select which items to import and then click Next (All items are checked by default and you can uncheck other items).

   Step 5: Click Finish.

Export Firefox bookmarks

1. Step 1: Open Firefox browser and press Ctrl + Shift + B shortcut simultaneously.

2. Step 2: On Library window, Click Import and Backup and select Export Bookmarks to HTML.

3. Step 3: Choose a location to save the HTML file and click Save.

Tips: You can also import an HTML file to Firefox in this way.

Part 3: Internet Explorer

Import favorites from Chrome to Internet Explorer

1. Step 1: Open Internet Explorer browser and click File on the top left corner of browser.

2. Step 2: Click Import and export in the context menu.

3. Step 3: Select Import from another browser and click Next.

4. Step 4: Check the box of Chrome and click Import.

5. Step 5: Click Finish.

Export favorites from Internet Explorer

1. Step 1: Repeat above steps 1 and 2 of importing favorites.

2. Step 2: Select Export to a file and click Next.

3. Step 3: Check the box of Favorites and click Next.

4. Step 4: Select a folder that you want to export and click Next.

5. Step 5: Click Browse and choose a location and click Save. Then click Export.

6. Step 6: Click Finish.

Tips: You can also follow the above steps to import an HTML file to Internet Explorer. You need to take note of the Step 3 and select Import to a file.
